Our international peace work spans the globe and has involved us with many Nobel Peace Laureates, Presidents and vice Presidents of countries, the United Nations, many of the world’s top religious leaders, as well as many humanitarians. We have worked diligently for 21 years to place on the world table new ideas to resolve the Israel Palestinian conflict and new ideas to end the Korean conflict. We have sponsored US programs that work to bring awareness of and to resolve the “China – Tibet tension”. We have worked to assist the homeless Dailet children in India as well as Tibetan refugees in the many Tibetan refugee camps in India.

Harold Schnitzer Spirit of Unity Peace Leadership Award
Our Institute cares about students.
Our Educating for Peace program began in 2001 with the 10,000 student Dalai lama Youth Summit and we have been working in the schools since then. Each year the Wholistic Peace Institute gives the Spirit of Unity Award to ten winning schools for their peace ideas. This prize conceived by Oregon’s foremost humanitarian, the late Harold Schnitzer, has been continued by his son Jordan Schnitzer to honor young students who may not otherwise know about peace . The recipients are middle and high school peace and humanitarian, human rights, social justice, conflict resolution or peer mediation programs or clubs at Oregon schools and community colleges for the outstanding work of their students in initiating peace and service projects in their schools and their communities-to make our world both a safer and a better place to thrive.
All students who apply to the Wholistic Peace Institute and are selected to receive this award are invited to attend a ceremony where they have an opportunity to present their peace project idea and to receive their school’s prize and certificate from a world-renowned peace builder or Nobel Peace Laureate. However, any student and their parents are welcome to attend this ceremony and meet a Nobel Peace Laureate. Thousands of educators and students have benefited from this prize. Most of the over 150 schools continue their successful activities that help to cultivate a culture of peace because of the Institute’s work with the Spirit of Unity program. Applications for Student peace clubs or projects that focus on peace; or Nobel Peace Laureates as leadership models; or conflict resolution or mediation to resolve conflict, or peacemaking skills; or that promoted or will promote human rights and civil rights; or will reduce bullying or gang violence in schools; or that will embrace diversity and promote tolerance will be accepted.
