The student peace book & DVD: learning from the nobel peace laureates

The STUDENT PEACE BOOK: Learning from the Nobel Peace Laureates and 1.5 hour DVD live footage of interviews with Nobel Peace Laureates hosted in Oregon by the Wholistic Peace Institute (WPI). This supplemental instructional resource material for teaching social studies; history, ethics, civics, government, human geography, behavioral or health science, economics. It allows all to “Educate for Peace” in schools, churches, community groups – learning from the world experts on peace, the Nobel Peace Laureates.

Edited by WPI, compiled from primary sources, the Nobel Peace Committee, and university professors emphasizing the importance of historically accurate, culturally relevant content that meets the social science standards for Grades 6 -12 (adopted by Oregon Department of Education in May 2018). The 178-pg. manual provides short, clear, straight forward way to teach about world peacemakers and the history changing actions they undertook during their lifetimes. The book was published by the Oregon Education Association.

The past winners, origin, history and importance of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize; the WPI brings Nobel Peace Laureates into classrooms. These world peace-builders are our modern day Mahatma Gandhi’s and much can be learned from their courageous historically important acts. In 2001 over 10,000 Oregon middle and high school students heard the 1989 Nobel Peace Laureate, the Dalai Lama; speak how to resolve conflict through dialogue, not fighting or running away; as well as many other Nobel Peace Laureates. Ethical behavior and achieving peace must be taught and this book provides a simple, effective way to bring these concepts and parts of our world history to students in a classroom setting.
