Impact Statement

The Wholistic Peace Institute advances peace through education, leadership development, international humanitarian engagement, and global peacebuilding initiatives that address the root causes of conflict while cultivating reconciliation, ethical leadership, and hope across generations and borders.

Through international humanitarian work, the Institute brings reconciliation and healing to communities impacted by conflict, trauma, and social division. By fostering dialogue, relationship-building, and peace-centered education in regions where trust has been broken, the Institute helps restore dignity, strengthen community resilience, and support long-term peace where resources for peacebuilding are often limited.

The Institute is deeply committed to student peace leadership and teaching, educating students and communities to become active agents of peace. Through curriculum-based programs, workshops, peace events, and public teaching, participants develop practical skills in conflict resolution, empathy, ethical decision-making, nonviolent action, and global citizenship. These programs strengthen schools and communities by empowering individuals to lead with compassion, courage, and responsibility.

In collaboration with Nobel Peace Laureates and internationally recognized peace leaders, the Institute contributes to global peacebuilding efforts focused on solutions to war, violence, and systemic injustice. Through peace conferences, forums, and educational events, students and community members engage directly with leaders whose work demonstrates effective nonviolent leadership, humanitarian action, and reconciliation at the highest levels. These partnerships connect local education initiatives to a broader global movement for peace.

For more than 25 years, the Wholistic Peace Institute has reached tens of thousands of students, educators, and community members through peace education, leadership development, and international engagement. Its programs have supported over 125 schools recognized with the Harold Schnitzer Spirit of Unity Award, helped establish more than 70 student-led peace clubs, and fostered partnerships across Oregon, Southwest Washington, and internationally. These efforts translate peace theory into real-world action—supporting youth-led initiatives, strengthening educational institutions, and advancing reconciliation in communities locally and globally. The Institute’s sustained impact reflects a proven, adaptable model for cultivating peace that continues to grow through strategic partnerships and community-driven leadership.

Across all programs, the Wholistic Peace Institute integrates academic rigor with lived experience, ensuring peace education is practical, relational, and sustainable. Participants consistently report increased understanding across differences, strengthened leadership capacity, and a renewed commitment to peace within their schools, communities, and organizations.
